Some of you might recognize this painting as it is similar to my “Mother and Child” piece. I have never felt like that piece belonged in any particular collection until now. Motherhood, florals, that’s this whole collection’s thing right? I wanted to reinvent her a bit though, a new meaning of the Mother and Child.

I have been thinking a lot about the next generation of women. They always say the next generation is stronger and more resilient than the last, yet why does it feel like they get knocked down by the older generation so much? Even when I was a kid (Millennial here!), on one hand I was told how smart and intuitive I was for learning the internet so fast, and on the other end I was told I was lazy, entitled, and didn’t have enough grit to stick with a job.

This painting is called “Lifted” because we need to be lifting up the next generation of women and not tear them down. We need to teach them what we know, while also opening our minds to learn from them! I personally know the temptation of disregarding or mocking those younger than us, and doing that will only drag us all down.

We are connected to each other like a big floral arrangement, and we need to be reminded that we both have something to offer.
