"Together" (Original Sketch)
This piece is more abstract and has an unlimited amount of meaning to it. For me, I was inspired to create a painting that celebrated women coming together. Women forming a circular shape with their bodies, looking towards each other, honoring each other, and celebrating each other.
I am a person who talks with their hands and I have been very inspired by dancers and arm movement in photography, dance, and other classical art like from artists like Giotto, Bernini, and Michelangelo. The movement in these women’s hands can speak whatever you hear them speak. Which is what I find beautiful in art and movement.
I also have felt and seen an incredible rise in support from other women lifting up other women. But on the other hand, I have also seen the opposite. I have seen many women in my life and on social media demean, judge, and belittle other women. This painting is a call for togetherness. It is a call for embracing and celebrating what makes us different and not comparing or holding us to an expectation or standard that creates damaging and hurtful environments.
