"Wanting-Part 1" (Original Sketch)
This painting is part 1 of 2 paintings. This painting is about wanting something you don’t have. It is about wishing, working towards something, praying for an answer, and dreaming of something different. I chose to post this figure as if she is holding something, but in fact isn’t. The flowers represent the thing she wants but does not have. Also a fun fact of this painting is that I couldn’t get the hands quite right, so I actually took a photo of myself and used that as a reference, so the end result looks very much like me. She represents every woman though. Wanting what we can’t have, wanting what we don’t have yet, wanting resolution or answers to a problem or a trial. Wanting is what we do. I wanted to capture that feeling in this piece.
This painting is especially meaningful to me, because although it doesn’t represent a specific experience of mine, I can relate this piece to many many times in my life when I have prayed for something and didn’t get the answer I wanted, or wanted something that I couldn’t have. I think this is something we can all relate to especially during this difficult time of wanting to hold family close but can’t because of this pandemic.
