This painting was inspired this entire collection. Some paintings come to me mid collection, some come to me very suddenly, and some paintings have been created in my head for months and sometimes years. This painting was in my head for nearly a year now. I was rocking my baby girl to sleep one night and was thinking about how motherhood has had so much more creativity than I thought there’d be. Just the process of trial and error trying to calm my fussing baby felt exactly like trying out a new medium I have never used before. Then finally, the moment where she is fast asleep leaning on my chest and I realize I created this environment for her. The dark lights, the white noise, the silky jammies, the full tummy, the lullaby singing, the rocking or sometimes bouncing on my big yoga ball. All of these things were the materials to create the perfect environment for a peaceful sleep. I was even once reminded by a friend that when sleep doesn’t come, the peaceful environment counts. A baby is getting the rest from light, from stimulation, from noise, and from the busy world, and that peace is oh so needed.
