The Light and the Dark

I had wanted to create a painting like this for a long time. I also wanted to hold back on a lot of the details I usually like to push when I work in oil and I decided to keep this one rough and full of large strokes. I wanted the main point of this painting to be about the light shining through the dark cloud, while also keeping it pretty equally light and equally dark. Life isn’t all full of the happy and perfect and beautiful. Life, to me, is full of equally hard and easy days, sadness and joy, fun and boring. Sometimes that dark cloud can creep in front of our good days and make it the only thing we see, but light will always outshine the dark. And it is because of the dark, we can appreciate the light so much more.
